Güler Sabancı | Inspiring Stories of Women
Güler Sabancı is a family member of Sabancı Holding, one of the leading companies in Turkey. After graduating from Business at Boğaziçi University, she started to be part of the family business at an early age.
Sabancı Foundation has been implementing projects to solve the inequalities faced by girls and women for almost 50 years. Supporting the United Nations Joint Program in 2006 with the aim of "protecting and improving the human rights of women and girls", the Foundation continued this work for 10 years to spread its positive effects at the local level. They also pioneered projects with such goals as preventing early forced marriages, education of young girls, empowerment of women, and gender equality.
The Foundation has opened 19 dormitories in 17 cities to support young girls against challenges they face in education. They still support the Purple Certificate Program conducted by Sabancı University to raise awareness of gender equality among teachers.
Güler Sabancı frequently mentioned the importance of strengthening women and girls, who constitute half of the society, in the subject of science and technology for social and economic development. And she believes that role models and support from each other are of great importance in directing girls to science.
Güler Sabancı ranked fifth on the World's Top 50 Business Women list prepared for the first time by the Financial Times in 2009. In the same year, she ranked eighth on the World's Top 50 Business Women list prepared by Forbes. She is also the first female member of many organizations, of which she is a member, such as the European Roundtable of Industrialists.
In September 2011, her works for women and girls to Turkey's society, due to cultural and economic development, former US President in the Corporate Leadership category by Bill Clinton established the Clinton Global Initiative was awarded the Clinton Global Citizenship Award.
Güler Sabancı continues her projects with the awareness of her social responsibility. Her important studies for the development and education of women are the biggest investment for the future.
